Tao Te Ching, Verse I: Surrender Your Desires For The Greater Good

Tao Te Ching, Verse I: Surrender Your Desires For The Greater Good

Tao Te Ching - Lao Tzu - chapter 1

The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.

The name that can be named is not the eternal name.

The nameless is the beginning of heaven and earth.

The named is the mother of ten thousand things.

Ever desireless, one can see the mystery.

Ever desiring, one can see the manifestations.

These two spring from the same source but differ in name;

     this appears as darkness.

Darkness within darkness.

The gate to all mystery.

***

"Ever desireless, one can see the mystery

Ever desiring, one can see the manifestations."

Having too many goals and desires as a software engineer can get in the way of growth!!! Sometimes it's better to focus on learning. Sometimes it's better to focus on the people around you and how grateful you are to learn from them.

Sometimes it's better to focus on what you can bring to the world. Sometimes it's better to be empty of all desires so you can bring whatever it is that needs to be brought to the world, to the world. Because I plan to bring huge things to the world of coding - but I do not mind what those things are.

Text of the poem - same as above.
